The first N-class vessel delivered

On the 31st of January at 07:01 local time, the Huangpu Wenchong shipyard in Guangzhou delivered Star Norge to Captain Bautista – the first N-class vessel in our fleet.

Star Norge is the first of four newbuild Grieg vessels joining our fleet this year, and the first of a total of ten joining G2 Ocean’s over the next three years.
“The investment in four 82,000 dwt N class vessels is a significant one for Grieg, but one that proves our commitment to both G2 Ocean and the open hatch concept,” said the deputy CEO of GMG, Nicolai Grieg.

A tribute to our roots

Star Norge, measuring 225 metres in length with a deadweight of 82,300 tonnes and eight large cargo holds, has several technological advancements. These include fully electrically driven slewing cranes with a safe working load capacity of 75 to 120 metric tonnes, enabling the safe and efficient handling of various types of industrial cargoes.
At the naming ceremony on the 6th of January, Arthur English, Chief Executive Officer at G2 Ocean, said:
“This naming ceremony not only celebrates the vessel’s addition to our fleet but also marks the launch of our fleet renewal programme, which will enhance our operational capability and provide increased flexibility for G2 Ocean and our customers.”
A ship’s name carries meaning beyond the hull it adorns. ‘Star Norge’ is a tribute to our Norwegian roots and proud maritime legacy, while also expressing our commitment to steer with care, purpose, and responsibility through an ever-changing world. Sponsor/Godfather and GMG Director Stian Grieg

Enables business growth

In addition to their cargo handling capabilities, the N-class is designed to be more efficient and environmentally friendly. Each vessel uses specialised measures to optimise propeller efficiency, reducing fuel consumption and emissions. In addition, the ships can generate more electricity from the main engine, reducing the need for extra generators and helping to save even more fuel and cut pollution.
The vessels are also designed to accommodate future use of alternative fuels, ensuring readiness for methanol or ammonia as these become viable options.
The introduction of these new vessels reflects G2 Ocean’s commitment to meeting customers’ requirements for greater operational flexibility, enhanced cargo-handling capabilities, improved environmental performance, and supporting the company’s ongoing business growth.
“I would like to express my sincere thanks to our own team, led by John Gabriel, for their professionalism, persistence, and attention to detail throughout this project. Building ships is complex; doing it well requires experience, trust, and cooperation—and your team has delivered all of that,” said GMG CEO Matt Duke in his speech.
